What do you want at the ProBro?

Okay folks — now’s your time to speak up!

We’ve originally pitched this meeting as a 3D/Profile fly for fun but it’s getting even bigger than that so we’re keen to hear exactly what kind of things you’d like to see.

Do you want some informal workshops and demos of other aspects of the hobby you might not be aware of? For instance — who wants to learn more about DLGs? 2.4GHz RC systems? Lipo care (and what happens when things go wrong)? etc?

And how about we organise a new NZ record for the most RC models in the air at one time? We’ve sure got enough space for it at Tokoroa Airfield and with the use of 2.4GHz there shouldn’t be any problems with frequency clashes so why not go for it?

A record-setting/attempt like this will also make it much easier to get the media along so that the rest of the country can see how much fun our hobby really is.

Please post your ideas as a comment to this article.

    Why not πŸ™‚

Lets set some records. Im allll in.

Most in the air, and how about some speed records? Itd have to be non FAI certed, but who gives a rats everyone will know the record πŸ˜›

  4. brucesimpson says:

Yes, the maximum RC models flying at one time will be a good record to aim for — since I don’t think one presently exists for NZ so it should be easy to achieve πŸ˜‰

It also makes for a great spectacle that I’m sure the mainstream media will love.

Of course there will be the obligatory pulsejet flights and if I can find the time and money, there’ll be a jet-powered gokart for those who want to blat up and down the runway.

  5. kneedrag says:

All in for the most in the air at one time record. πŸ˜‰

Other question have the local rags been notified of the event?

I will try get hold of a few of our local papers seen we are not too far from Tok and see if we can get them to cover the event or at least try get the kids to nag there parents if you think that will help.

  6. brucesimpson says:

I think we need to make sure we’ve got the name and a few other details sorted out first.

I have good relations with the local paper free paper (South Waikato Times) and the editor of the Waikato Times (they republish my blog) so I can probably organise that without any problems.

When it comes to the media, you really have to hand-feed them these days. There’s little point in simply saying “we’re having an event, come report on it” — you’ve got to provide them with lots of background, information, names etc so that it’s much easier for them to craft up a story. Cost of creation collection/creation is a major factor in newspaper profitability so a “cheap to write” story will always be more attractive than one that requires lots more time/effort. Also, by providing the material you have better control over what they say πŸ˜‰

  7. SargeNZ says:

Hoo-rah. You should be able to get 15-20 models in the air surely.. careful though, you’d be in danger of having to fly left hand circuits πŸ™‚

  8. heh, hey sarge, yep 20 in the air, esp if its all in combat would be cool, no need for circuits….

Bruce – have we sorted a name for the Primary event so I can get the site going ?

  9. yea, but what name, is it Tokoroa Takeoff ?

  10. brucesimpson says:

I’ll see what I can find Mat.

  11. siang says:
